Thursday 18 June 2020 - Discretionary Business Support Grant. The Business Secretary, Alok Sharma, on 1 May 2020 promised additional funding to local authorities in order to assist businesses who are not entitled to the £10,000 Small Business Grant or the £25,000 Retail, Hospitality & Leisure Grant. These grants were paid automatically in April to qualifying businesses who were paying business rates or were exempted from business rates as a result of the Small Business Rates Relief.

 

However, a lot of small businesses missed out as they are operating from serviced offices or are market traders, etc. and therefore not paying business rates. Additionally, bed & breakfast businesses do not qualify as they are required to pay council tax and not business rates. The discetionary fund is therefore designed to help these businesses who have not received any financial support. London Borough of Ealing has received £3.3m top-up funding from the Government and has today announced that it is making available grants of £2,500, £5,000 and £10,000 to qualifying businesses.

London Borough of Hounslow has received £1.8m from the Government and opened up it's applications on Wednesday 10 June 2020. Grants of either £5,000, £10,000 or £25,000 are up for grab on a first-come, first-served basis. London Borough of Barnet is also accepting applications on their website for grants of £5,000, £7,500 or £10,000.

 

Friday 29 May 2020 - The Chancellor, Rishi Sunak, has extended the scheme enabling millions of self-employed individuals to claim a second grant in August 2020 which will now be 70% of profits from self-employment capped at £6,570.  If you wish to claim a second grant, you will have to confirm that your business has been adversely affected on or after 14 July 2020.

 

Friday 29 May 2020 - Furlough Leave extended by the Chancellor, Rishi Sunak. The new scheme will be more flexible from 1 July 2020 and allow employees to be furloughed on a part-time basis i.e. no longer an "all or nothing" scheme. However, it will be tapered, thereby requiring employers to contribute towards some of their employees' costs. 

 

Thursday 14 May 2020 - The Self-Employment Income Support Scheme (SEISS) has today gone live and the self-employed are now able to make a claim. DON'T MISS OUT - you can apply on HMRC's website at: Claim Self-Employment Grant.

You will need your UTR (12 digit unique tax reference) and your National Insurance number in order to make a claim. Contact us on 020 8567 7733 if you need our help with your application.

 

Monday 4 May 2020 - Bounce Back Loan applications have commenced with 100,000 applications from small businesses on the first day alone. Tuesday 21 April 2020 - HMRC's Furlough Leave claim portal is now live. We have already successfully claimed thosands of pounds from HMRC for our clients. Please contact us for FREE advice if you are having any issues with your claim.

We are Xero, Sage and QuickBooks Online Certified Advisors and can therefore help in converting your desktop based accounting software to a cloud based software thereby ensuring that you are compliant with the Making Tax Digital (MTD) for VAT changes.

Making Tax Digital requires all VAT Registered businesses with annual sales in excess of £85,000 to maintain their accounting records digitally. HMRC now requires VAT returns to filed via MTD compliant software such as Xero or Sage Business Cloud Accounting. Using the HMRC portal to file VAT Returns IS NO LONGER AN OPTION.

We can also act as your Financial Controller or Finance Director for your business on a as-and-when basis thereby avoiding the need for you to employ someone on a full time basis.
